I love Dallas August 27, 2010 T. Clark (Atlanta, GA United States) Dallas was a great show and it's trely missed. I was too young to really enjoy it when it was on but I have the opportunity to view the entire seasons when I get a chance. Great show and wonderful plots.
Starts off slow but gets better with each episode May 7, 2010 jarhead76 (New Mexico) Though not nearly as good as the previous three seasons, Dallas Season 7 turns out to be ultimately satisfying. Unlike season 6, which was almost flawless, season 7 contains several plot twists which fall flat. Even the good plot twists were very slow to develop. The season includes the addition of Peter Richards, a college-age camp counselor, who has a secret affair with Sue Ellen and Jenna Wade, Bobby's childhood sweetheart who rekindles the flame after his divorce from Pam. Other returning characters that have a more prominent role are the demented Katherine Wentworth, Pam and Cliff's scheming half-sister, the honorable Clayton Farlow, who begins to romance Miss Ellie, and the affable Mark Graison, whose relationship with Pam blossoms.
The season begins with the fight for Ewing Oil ending as Bobby and J.R. agree to split control of the company. Ray is on trial for disconnecting the life support system on his nephew. Bobby and Pam begin divorce proceedings with the help of J.R. and Katherine's scheming. J.R. and Sue Ellen are separated but living in the same house. Miss Ellie is vacationing with Clayton. The first few episodes drag a little bit especially considering that season 5 & 6 were so fast moving. The trial which dominates the first few episodes is just plain painful for the Ray character and even more painful for the viewer.
The major plotlines that run through the bulk of the season are Bobby and Pam's new romances; Peter's obsession with Sue Ellen; Miss Ellie and Clayton's upcoming wedding along with J.R.'s plan to stop it; J.R.'s plot to get offshore oil leases while ruining Cliff in the process; and Katherine's twisted plan to steal Bobby away from both Jenna and Pam.
The biggest misfires of all were the whole Pam-Mark Graison, Bobby-Jenna Wade romance angles which really fell flat. The Pam-Mark Graison romance started out as promising but ends up becoming sappy in the end. The Mark Graison character started out as a former playboy with kind of an edge. However, he soon becomes so noble and perfect for Pam that he is actually boring. His storyline goes from a little bit sentimental to very sappy. In its previous six seasons, "Dallas" was never a sappy or morally righteous show. However, it kind of becomes that way once Pam leaves Bobby and the independent Pam plays a more prominent role in the story lines. This sappiness carries over into the next couple of seasons with Bobby's death and Mark's "resurrection". The Bobby-Jenna Wade romance just seems to make no sense. I cannot think of one thing that Bobby would see in her. The Jenna Wade character has absolutely no charisma, is very moody, and has a 13-year old daughter, born under mysterious circumstances, to which she was never really honest to Bobby about. Even worst of all, she is loved by J.R. who is all for the marriage just because she is not Pam. This relationship makes about as much sense as the Cliff-Afton relationship which is mysterious as to what Afton sees in Cliff and also spans the entire season.
Though not quite as bad, the Sue Ellen-Peter Richards angle was frustrating and very slow to come to a head. However, it was ultimately worth the wait. Peter's tantrums and obsessive behavior patterns are so ridiculous that it almost becomes unintentionally funny. Any normal person would have gotten a restraining order but Sue Ellen just kept leaving the door open for an affair. When J.R. finally finds out, everything becomes stagnant to the point where you begin to think "Will J.R. just destroy this poor kid already and get it over with?" When J.R. finally lowers the boom, you are once again reminded why J.R. is one of the most diabolic characters in the history of television.
The Miss Ellie-Clayton Farlow wedding plans are also slow-moving and seem to take about 10 years to materialize. When the time finally approaches for the wedding, it is almost like much ado about nothing. J.R. vows to try and stop the wedding and even teams up with Clayton's deranged sister to try and accomplish that. However, like J.R. says in his wedding toast, Clayton is the one person who he has yet to beat.
The most intriguing plotline had to have been J.R.and Cliff's ongoing fight to win offshore oil leases. Cliff tries to use J.R.'s secretary, Sly, to steal information. However, J.R. finds out and devises a detailed plan to bankrupt Cliff and take over the leases. The showdown literally goes to the last minute and leaves you wondering if J.R. will once again destroy Cliff or his plan will backfire and Cliff will finally win.
Lastly, Katherine's twisted plan to get Bobby manages to span most of the season. The plan and plotline is decent if not a little bit over the top. The Katherine character at first seems to fool everyone. However, midway through the season, Bobby and Pam are the only ones on the planet who don't see through her twisted ways. For unknown reasons, she continues to sleep with and conspire with J.R.even though it is obvious that he has no plans to help her get Bobby. She even becomes more demented in her brief appearances in the later seasons.
The last three plotlines really make the season enjoyable and yet still don't quite border on ridiculous as is the case in the later season. This is really one of the last seasons where the core group of characters remain, as the subsequent seasons see the departure of Miss Ellie (#1), Bobby, Pam, Lucy, Donna, Sue Ellen and Ray.
A Classic Series April 27, 2010 Ricky Lee Hicks (Murrells Inlet, South Carolina USA) A classic series, simply TV's best ever and a must have for any Dallas fan.
GREAT GIFT March 6, 2010 minnie (Kentucky) I bought this a a christmas present for my mother-in-law, she is a huge dallas fan. She just loved it. The seller is great. item is in mint condition and the order came very fast.
Another Review from one who has started at the beginning. December 11, 2009 M. K. Delorean (Los Angeles, CA United States) I have skipped reviewing Seasons 4 thru 6 on Amazon but now I feel I must chime in on Season 7 which is a truly excellent season. Nothing can match the original mini series and season 1 (box set labeled Seasons 1 and 2) but I must say Season 7 is amazing. If you have been watching Dallas sequentially up until about now but have been having second thoughts due to the quality decline, hold on there, cause Season 7 will blow your Stetson clean off yer head!
